HandStx Hybrid Sticks

The Native Tongue Percussion HandStx Hybrid Sticks allow hand drummers to combine stick and hand playing without setting the stick down. Typically, one HandStx is held in one hand while the other hand remains free for traditional hand drumming.

Multiple grip and play techniques create different drum tones and sound effects. The HandStx can remain centered in an open hand technique during bass strokes so the fingers, HandStx, and palm strike together. Its foam-covered section is designed to function as part of the hand’s contact with the drumhead rather than simply as a padded grip.

The HandStx also functions as a conventional stick for playing rim- or stand-mounted percussion instruments, including blocks, bells, cymbals, the RhymGuiro, and other stick-played accessories.

Model PSK-H10-260 is especially well suited for djembes and other African-style drums but can also be used with a variety of hand-percussion and hybrid percussion setups.

The P-STX percussion stick is designed to stay in your hand enabling you to continuously play a hand drum alone or along with auxiliary percussion instruments without having to pick up and lay the stick back down. The stick body has a thick foam rubber sleeve that has a density suitable to

incorporate with hand play striking. The top of the stick is an extended wood rod with an optional pull-out rubber grommet to produce a warmer tone. The stick body, wood rod extension, and tip can be used to create a multitude of sound variations on the drum. It can be held in various positions in your hand to strike the drum with the stick body, the rod shaft, the rubber grommet, the tip, or striking the drum with both the stick body and your hand while the stick is positioned horizontally to the drumhead. The position of your hand on the stick along with the amount of hand contact incorporated into the strike will produce various sounds from the drum. Using the upper rod section to strike the drum produces many sound affects by using the tip with or without the pull-out rubber grommet to strike the drumhead or using the shaft of the wood rod on and around the rim of the drum to create a cross stick and/or rimshot affect.
